Cityscapes is an illustration series I made during lockdown, between 2020-2021. It definitely felt like every creative person during this time needed some form of personal project to work on; this was mine.
Cityscapes was born out of the period of isolation almost all of us can relate to during the years of 2020-2021. I have always personally loved being in the bustling and built up environment of the city but due to the restrictions of travel, the city was beyond the limits I would be able to go.
Even mentally, I think we can all agree lockdowns were a strange time where we had to really sit with ourselves for longer than we would've liked, having to discover and realise different facets of ourselves in this new environment.
This is where the idea and basis of the Cityscapes art project was born, both showcasing my love for city environments and their absence, as well as expressing different emotions and thoughts I felt at the time. This was also a new stylistic direction for me and my drawing, but I am happy with the way it all unfolded.
